Procedure in Filing a Petition under RA 10172 or Correction of Clerical or Typographical Errors in Certificate of Birth

1. File the petition with the complete supporting documents to the City or Municipal Civil Registrar for personal appearance or interview;

2. The City or Municipal Civil Registrar checks on the completeness and authenticity of the supporting documents and if found in order, shall cause the posting of the notice of said petition in the bulletin board of the office within ten (10) calendar days from date of receipt;

3. If there is no opposition entered in the office, the City or Municipal Civil Registrar shall render his/her decision within five (5) working days after the lapse of the posting period;

4. Thereafter, within five (5) working days, the City or Municipal Civil Registrar shall transmit the petition with the supporting documents and decision to the Office of the Civil Registrar General - Philippine Statistics Office, 3/F Vibal Bldg, Times Street cor. EDSA, West Triangle, Quezon City;

5. Within ten (10) working days from receipt of the said documents, the Civil Registrar General shall act on the same either affirming the decision of City or Municipal Civil Registrar or impugning the same;

6. Whether the action of the Civil Registrar General is affirming or impugning the decision of the City or Municipal Civil Registrar, she shall transmit back the entire documents to the City or Municipal Civil Registrar within ten (10) working days;

7. If the Civil Registrar General affirms the decision, the City or Municipal Civil Registrar shall issue the certificate of finality to the petitioner and shall issued the amended/annotated certificate to the petitioner to Philippine Statistics Authority, Quezon City for purposes of security paper (SECPA) issuance;

8. If the action of the Civil Registrar General is to impugn the City or Municipal Civil Registrar decision, the petitioner shall either file an appeal to the Civil Registrar General or file a petition in the court.
